Technical FAQs

Q. What is Django?

A web application framework built on the Python programming language.

Q. Why did Nomensa choose the Django framework?

Billed as a "Web framework for perfectionists with deadlines", the focus of Django is to encourage rapid development and clean, pragmatic design.

This makes it ideal for producing accessible websites and applications because it does not require or include any particular front-end code. Apart from a basic (and optional) administration area, the framework allows the developer to use any HTML/CSS/JS code you like.

Q. What else can you tell me about the programming and technical architecture for the product?

It is possible to run Django (and therefore Defacto) on just about any platform, however, it is best tested and most robust on Linux/Unix. Nomensa use:

  • Linux Operating System;
  • PostgreSQL database, (MySQL and Oracle are also possible);
  • NginX web server (Apache is also supported).

Running this setup generally has a much smaller footprint than either Java or .Net, allowing you to run more sites per server.

Nomensa use Defacto as a library, so that it is possible to develop web applications with Django outside of Defacto if you want to. Of course, you would probably want to use the nice interface in Defacto as well, so we'll need to make that possible.
