Sky Rainforest Rescue
When launching a three year campaign aiming to save 1 billion trees in the rainforest, Sky required a CMS that would enable their dedicated web team to edit the website easily. With an inspiring campaign attempting to encourage the public to donate £4 million, Sky selected Defacto after discovering how efficiently it would enable them to update content. This was critical in ensuring that the public were kept up-to-date with the progress of the campaign.
As the website was the key avenue to donate, Nomensa created a seamless donation journey when designing the website which was then integrated into Defacto. Working closely with WWF who hosted the donation payment process, the Defacto team strived to make sure the shift between systems was invisible to the user.
Defacto supports the website in achiveving Level AA standard of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines by prompting website editor to create accessible content. Additionally, Defacto's back-end system is also accessible, enabling visually impaired web editors to manage web content.
Sky's campaign is heavily supported by television advertising and accompanying documentaries. Defacto supports for multimedia was enhanced by television guide functionality letting website visitors know when upcoming documentaries are being shown. To support the television documentaries further, Nomensa’s fully accessible media player showcasing snippets from them has been integrated into Defacto. The media player does not jeopardise the accessibility of the website as it too is accessible for a keyboard user. The final piece of the puzzle was to create a customised donation meter that the team could update easily.
Defacto enables Sky’s small web team to manage a high profile, large website with ease. This ensures that donators are kept regularly up to date with the total donations and how their contribution will help to saving the rainforest.
Within one year of the campaign launch, over £1.2million has been raised – the equivalent of saving over 60million trees. Defacto continues to support Sky in forming a simple and informative avenue to donate.
