Sky TV Accessibility
As an internationally recognised leader in Broadcast Media, BSkyB takes its corporate social responsibilities extremely seriously and this includes the provision of accessible services to a range of diverse customers.
As the only fully accessible Content Management System (CMS) on the market, BSkyB selected Defacto to host its Sky TV Accessibility website. The biggest challenge for BSkyB was to find a CMS that would sustain a WCAG Level AA accessible website.
With these inspirational accessibility standards and demanding functionality needs, Defacto was the only CMS that could successfully meet these requirements. As Defacto is both front and back-end accessible, Sky’s website editors, regardless of disabilities can edit web content. Additionally, Defacto automatically prompts editors to produce accessible content to go onto the live website.
With an array of people accessing the Sky TV Accessibility website with a variety of accessibility needs including visual, hearing, mobility and cognitive impairments the website needed to support these through the functionality of Defacto. Bespoke functionality that was implemented included:
- Secure forms to protect customer privacy;
- A dynamic FAQ section with the ability to vote on the helpfulness of the answers;
- A keyboard-accessible media player;
- Integration of an external TV guide.
Defacto enables the new Sky TV Accessibility website to achieve remarkable accessibility levels, proven when it was independently audited by the Shaw Trust to Accessible + accreditation and was described as ‘best in class’.
