Particle Physics UK
"We have ended up with a site that the particle physics community has embraced – the design has gone down well with everyone, and also the functionality in terms of being able to successfully view the site on different platforms – a great compliment coming from the particle physics community, who use a variety of different platforms beyond Internet Explorer!"
Objective
Desperately in need of an overhaul, the Particle Physics UK (PPUK) website needed dramatic design and structural work. PPUK needed a solution to upgrade their existing website and incorporate a content management system (CMS) that would allow web editors to manage their website in a user friendly, accessible environment.
Action
To understand the strengths and weaknesses of the existing site, a website analysis was conducted. This valuable analysis allowed Nomensa to create a striking new design for the new website.
The new website was integrated into Defacto giving PPUK easy website management, accessible to all web editors. As standard from Nomensa, the new website meets the highest international accessibility standards - Triple-A of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
The PPUK web team were fully trained in how to use Defacto, to ensure that they could move forwards in managing their website, whilst maintaining its accessibility.
Results
A website that is striking, easily navigated and suited to its diverse audiences. The website provides a world-class portal for its scientific and educational communities and has received vast amounts of positive feedback proving particle physics can be accessible to a wider audience. The PPUK web team can now maintain and update their website in an intuitive, accessible environment and due to Defacto being a web-based solution, PPUK’s web editors can edit their website anywhere in the world.
